Shania Twain Replaces Brad Pitt Lyric with New Heartthrob at 2022 People’s Choice Awards

At the People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday (December 6), Shania Twain collected the Music Icon award and then performed a medley of her classics. This performance demonstrated why Shania Twain deserves to be called a Music Icon.

Her performance included her breakthrough 1995 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Any Man of Mine,” her crossover late-1990s pop smashes “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” and her most recent single “Waking Up Dreaming.” One of the highlights of her performance was when the pink-haired singer replaced the famous spoken-word “Brad Pitt” line from “Impress” with a line about a fellow Canadian star.

As the cameras went to the star of Deadpool, who was there to win the People’s Icon award later in the evening, she exclaimed in a sassy tone, “OK, so you’re Ryan Reynolds!” She stated this as the cameras cut to the actor as he was visibly astonished. From the stands, Reynolds could be heard exclaiming, “Oh my God, me?!”

In addition to the performance, Twain made an emotional acceptance speech as she got the Music Icon award from her friend, actor Billy Porter. Porter was there to present her with the honor.

“Do I have to wake up? She began her statement with, “I truly am, I suppose.” “I can’t thank you enough for honoring me with this award and for drawing attention to the fact that the work I’ve done has had such a huge influence. That may not be the most appropriate thing to say, but that has always been one of my goals—to move other people with the music that I create. In times like this, I find that I miss my mother more than anything else. It would have brought her so much joy to witness her little child experience this moment as it is right now. However, my supporters, my friends, and my staff are the ones that really fill up that space. Thank you. This is not the area that belonged to my mother, but you are here with me and you are celebrating, we are celebrating together, and you have made me feel loved and unique throughout my whole professional life. And for that, I shall be thankful to you for the rest of my life, thank you.

“From a very early age, I turned to music as a sort of escape,” she went on to say later on in the interview. “This is the location where I always end up. It had never occurred to me how influential lyrics may become when they are able to be recorded and sent to an audience that spans the globe. To be held in such high regard as a songwriter is a wonderful accomplishment. The fact that others have drawn courage and motivation from what I have to sing and the job that I do is, nevertheless, the greatest honor of all for me. Therefore, thank you very much; I adore you because of it.

She also emphasized her status as a fashion icon, noting that in the early stages of her career, she just cobbled together her clothes using the things that she already had. “I simply went to my wardrobe and picked out whatever I had, or I went to a department shop and picked out the budget stuff since I didn’t have a huge budget.” “I went to my closet and picked out anything I had.” With it, a pair of sharp scissors, and a considerable amount of creative energy, I just sliced, tugged, and chopped the material… and prayed for the best.

At the conclusion of her address, Twain offered some words of wisdom to the younger audience members. “I’m simply going to say this: Saddle up, kids. Embrace your uniqueness and the wacky thoughts that come into your head. Just have some guts. Let’s not forget that there is strength in numbers, that we are all in this together, that love is love, and that when a door slams in your face, you should take a freaking run up to your door, jump at it, and kick it down! You won’t regret it.

She closed by saying, “All I have to say is: Be the queen of you,” giving a cowgirl’s nod to her impending sixth studio album, Queen of Me, which is scheduled for release on February 3, 2023.
