In November, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp suffered a severe ankle sprain.

He had ankle surgery despite avoiding a serious fracture.

If the Rams fail to make the playoffs, Kupp may not return this season.

The 3-9 team faces the Las Vegas Raiders at home.

If Kupp recovers by the sixth week (Dec. 28), he could play Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Jan. 1 and Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 8.

Given his importance to the team, the Rams may rest the 29-year-old for the rest of the season.

If the defending champions win the rest of their games and make the playoffs, Kupp will have recovered enough to play in the playoffs.

The Rams are in danger of elimination, according to The New York Times.

New quarterback Baker Mayfield may start against the 5-7 Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

Las Vegas has won three straight, while Los Angeles has lost six straight.
