The drawing for the record-breaking $1.9 billion Powerball has been postponed until 11 p.m. due to a "technical difficulty," lottery host Laura Johnson said.

On Monday, EST informed television viewers who were waiting to discover if they were about to become billionaires.

Because of a technical problem tonight, we are unable to bring you the Powerball drawing at this time.

As soon as we are unable to remedy the issue and perform the drawing," Johnson added, "it will be available on Powerball.com.

The delay was caused, according to lottery organisers, by "a participating lottery needing extra time to implement the requisite security processes."

Around 2:20 a.m., Anna Domoto of the Multi-State Lottery Association issued a statement clarifying the situation:

"The Powerball drawing, which was planned for Monday, Nov. 7, has been postponed." Currently, one lottery participant is still processing sales and play data.
